In reply to your despatch of the 8th instant, I have the honour to report that there are no British subjects of Chinese race residing in Chefoo at present.

A native of Hong Kong was registered a few months ago in the Consulate, but has since gone to reside at Newchwang. He dressed in the ordinary Chinese costume. No note was made of the nationality of his father, who is residing at Hong Kong.
